In the UK, many properties are in fact oak framed, which is a practice that will quite honestly never go out of fashion. We supply three main types of beams, below are details on each

English Green Oak Beams

Green oak has been fresh sawn from the trunk and is very light in colour. The oak has a very high moisture content and is very heavy but feels softer, so is easier to cut and work. However this means the oak will move and split when it is drying out. Our English Green oak is perfect for all large oak framing projects and external beams.

Air Dried Oak Beams

Air dried beams are green beams that have been left to dry naturally. This process means they have lost a lot of their moisture content, meaning they are more stable and have reduced settling movement. They are slightly darker and a lot harder to cut and work with. Perfect for internal trusses/framing, internal beams and fireplace mantels.

Reclaimed Oak Beams

These are Oak beams that have been used before and been reclaimed from their original buildings. These may be in excess of 500 years old. They generally have a beautiful darker look, with lots of splits and character. The oak is extremely hard but stable, perfect for fireplace beams and interior beams. If these beams could tell stories!
